CREW MARYLAND SUBURBAN,
SPONSORS of the NATIONAL CENTER FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
CREW
Maryland Suburban has been a strong supporter and advocate for the
National Center for Children and Families (NCCF) since 1998, providing
both monetary donations and hands-on volunteer help to the children
and families served by NCCF’s programs. Most recently, CREW
members provided a holiday party to youth in the Futurebound Independent
Living Program (FILP) in Silver Spring, and a Mother’s Day
party at the Greentree Shelter for homeless families in Bethesda.
NCCF is a private nonprofit organization, founded as a Baptist
orphanage in 1915, and committed to strengthening families and providing
direction and support to vulnerable children and youth. NCCF operates
a broad range of programs, with a strong mission:
". . . to support total, healthy living environments
for vulnerable children, youth, and families, and the quality of
life which empowers their ability to thrive and demonstrate responsibility."
In addition to out-of-home group care for adolescents and an emergency
family shelter at our Bethesda campus, NCCF provides therapeutic
foster parenting for children and youth, transitional housing supports,
community school supports for poor, underachieving children, and
prevention and early intervention services to families in their
own homes.
Last year NCCF’s 10 programs served a diverse population
of 1,643 individuals and over 645 families in the Washington, DC
metropolitan area. Many of the families represent first generation
immigrants from more than ten distinctive nationalities who struggle
to educate their children and to make meaningful connections in
the community. In June, NCCF was honored by their peers at the Consortium
for Child Welfare (CCW) as the Outstanding Agency for 2002. For
more information about NCCF, visit their website at www.nccf-cares.org,
or ask a CREW Maryland Suburban member how you can get involved.
The National Center for Children and Families says
thank you to CREW Maryland Suburban.
